To make perfect espresso you not only begin with quality beans, but a high caliber grinder also. Grinding the beans immediately before making a cup is crucial to capturing the fullest aroma, essence and flavor profile possible. The Breville Barista Express features a conical burr grinder. Conical burr grinders are superior in that they create less friction, and therefore less heat. Heat will destroy some of the oils in the bean and negatively affect the flavor of the finished product. A Burr grinder will also create a more uniform grind. This lets water penetrate the grounds more evenly for maximum aroma and flavor.The Barista Express also allows for more control over the grinding process. The grind size dial lets you adjust from fine to coarse, while the grind amount dial adjusts dosage amount. Once the beans are ground to your specifications, the patented RAZOR Dose Trimming Tool will trim down the puck, which results in a precise dose and consistent extraction. Finally, an espresso gauge actually monitors extraction pressure.
